San Jose, Kalifornien, GPU Technology Conference, 16. Mai 2012 - Mit der GeForce-GRID-Cloud-Gaming-Plattform veröffentlicht NVIDIA eine Neuheit, mit der Anbieter von Gaming-as-a-Service Next-Generation-Games ohne Verzögerungszeiten auf jedes Endgerät streamen können.

Mit GeForce GRID können Gaming-as-a-Service-Anbieter anspruchsvollste visuelle Effekte mit niedrigen Verzögerungszeiten anbieten, während nur geringere Betriebskosten anfallen, insbesondere beim Energieverbrauch. Gamer profitieren von der Möglichkeit, die neuesten und fortschrittlichsten Spiele auf jedem angeschlossenen Gerät – darunter TV-Geräte, Smartphones und Tablets mit Android- und iOS-Betriebssystem - zu nutzen.

GeForce GRID wurde als Teil weiterer Neuankündigungen von NVIDIA auf der GPU Technology Conference (GTC) vorgestellt. Eine komplette Übersicht ist verfügbar im GTC online press room.

Die Schlüsseltechnologien der neuen GeForce-GRID-Plattform setzen dabei auf NVIDIA-GPUs mit dedizierten Ultra-Low-Latency-Streaming-Technologien und Cloud-Grafik-Software. Gemeinsam verändern sie grundlegend die Wirtschaftlichkeit und Erfahrung beim Cloud-Gaming, indem sie Anbietern von Gaming-as-a-Service skalierbare Rechenzentren ermöglichen, die zuvor nur Film-Streaming-Diensten vorbehalten waren.

NVIDIA-GeForce-GRID-GPUs
Unter dem Einsatz der hoch effizienten NVIDIA-Kepler-Architektur minimieren NVIDIA-GeForce-GRID-GPUs den Stromverbrauch, obwohl bis zu acht Streams gleichzeitig encodiert werden. So können Anbieter ihren Service kosteneffektiv anbieten und Millionen von Gamer unterstützen.

In zwei auf Kepler-Architektur basierende GPUs, jede davon mit einem eigenen Encoder ausgestattet, arbeiten Prozessoren mit 3.072 CUDA-Technologie-Kernen mit einer 3D-Shader-Performance von 4,7 Teraflops. Damit können Anbieter hochkomplexe Games in der Cloud rendern und auf GPUs statt auf CPUs encodieren, um auf ihren Servern mehr Game-Streams gleichzeitig laufen zu lassen. Der Stromverbrauch pro Game wurde dabei im Gegensatz zu früheren Verfahren um die Hälfte reduziert, ein wesentlicher Faktor für Rechenzentren.

Schnelle Streaming-Technologie
Die schnelle Streaming-Technologie reduziert die Verzögerungszeiten auf gerade einmal zehn Millisekunden – also weniger als ein Wimpernschlag –, da das Erfassen und Encoden eines einzigen Game-Frame in nur einem Arbeitsschritt erfolgt. Die GeForce-GRID-Plattform setzt dabei auf Fast-Frame Capture, das gleichzeitige Rendern und Encoden für ultraschnelles Streaming.

Die in GeForce-GRID-GPUs verwendete Technologie reduziert die Verzögerungszeiten in Netzwerken, so dass Gamer das Gefühl haben, an einem topausgestatteten Supercomputer im selben Zimmer zu spielen. Blitzschnelles Gamen ist endlich Wirklichkeit, auch wenn der Rechner Kilometer entfernt steht.

GeForce GRID enthüllt die virtuelle Spielekonsole
Auf der GTC demonstrierten NVIDIA und Gaikai eine virtuelle Spielekonsole, bestehend aus einem LG Cinema 3D Smart TV und einer von Gaikai entwickelten Applikation, verbunden mit einer GeForce-GRID-GPU in zehn Meilen Entfernung. Dies realisiert sofortiges und verzögerungsfreies Spielen eines hochkomplexen PC-Games mit einem einzigen Netzwerkkabel und einem kabellosen USB-Gamepad auf einem TV-Gerät.
